change the world overwhelm stress supporting teens Feb 19, 2018
I love so much about this article from Hands Free Mama, if you haven't read it, it is worth the read.
My favorite line...
"It is time to look into the eyes of a stressed-out young person and say, “Yes, I see that score, and it does not reflect what you know … who you are … and all that you’re going to be.”
In all my work with teens and young adults, the most powerful moments are when they are able to discover a glimpse of who they are, uniquely. To allow them, if even for a moment, outside of the cultural script of achievement and expectation. It is incredible what that moment of freedom can release, I'm guessing it's much like the Mom and the Daughter in this article, when they are able to embrace and it releases the stress, overwhelm, and anxiety.
Let's be their biggest fans, maybe we can become a community of people that say, enough is enough, let's forget what the "script" says, let's come alongside the young people and help them to understand who they are, and all they are going to be.
As the writer mentions, "such a noble aspiration could potentially save a life, such a noble aspiration could potentially change the world."
You, as a parent, have the privilege and opportunity to set your teen free.
